Any conditions that cause immobilization for a long period of time. Also, poor nutrition contributes. These conditions could be a spinal cord injury (para or quadriplegia), orthopedic injuries, becoming debilitated, etc. Basically anything that restricts movement. I forgot, diabetes should be in there too.
AIDS, Severe Combined Immune Deficiency, Steroid use, Chemotherapy for cancer, etc.
Then there are autoimmune diseases, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Crohn's Disease, etc.
Try doing a Google or Yahoo internet search. Go to a medical web site that is geared toward patients and read up.
Don't you have a book from the class? Also, didnt you learn that in class?

Look up colorblindness and the the ability to taste phenylthiocarbamide (PTC), both of which are great examples of inheritance patterns.
Is there any chance that you're touching your face more in that area without realizing it? That could contribute to clogged pores on transferring bactieria from your hands. If you use anything on your lips like gloss or chapstick that can effect the area too.

What happened? I used to be the top Diseases Conditions and STDs answerer and now I'm not on there?
Oh gosh, I just saw this. Alli, if I could hand the top spot back to you, I would. You deserve it way more than I do. Really, you are an asset to the Y!A STD forum.
Hey Y!A mods, can you put Alli back in where she belongs? It's okay with me if she keeps the #1 rank.
ADDENDUM for ALLI: On the Y!A help boards, it seems there are a few people with the same problem. Y!A Team recommends not updating your profile for now till they can fix the glitches. Did you update your profile recently? That may be the reason.
The short answer: Most of the chronic kidney diseases will cause the kidneys to shrink.
The long answer:
Kidneys have two parts: the cortex on the outside (giving them the kidney bean shape) and the medulla on the inside. The cortex is where the filtering heads (called glomeruli) are located.
Most of the chronic kidney diseases -- including renovascular disease caused by high blood pressure and glomerulonephritis (including things like FSGS, IgA nephritis, MPGN, lupus nephritis, etc) -- all cause the glomeruli to die. As they die, they shrink and become scar tissue. As a result, the cortex get thinner, and the kidney shrinks in size.
However, there are two notable exceptions to the rule: diabetes and polycystic kidney disease. With diabetic nephropathy (kidney disease caused by diabetes), the kidneys often remain the same size as normal kidneys. With polycystic kidney disease, the kidneys become huge (due to all the cysts that form inside).
Hope that helps.
Well they certainly get cancer. I just had one put to sleep at the vets about an hour ago, due to that.
Didn't even know she had it when I went in. Just knew she was losing weight and not very active. Turned out she was pretty far gone already, and the colon cancer she had, no treatment for it.
Her sister died from feline breast cancer a few years ago. I had her about 16 years, since she was a kitten. Pretty depressing.
You should look for things like changes in eating habits, loss of weight, vomiting, diarrhea. Take them to the vet if you're not sure about anything.
It's sad when they go. You really get attached to them. But it does go with the territory.
Wow, that is something. I am sorry to report that I'm not a health professional and cannot offer information. But I would like to encourage you in what you already know - about exercising and diet. Whatever the doc suggests as far as exercising - make sure you do it because as you get older (I'm guessing your in your twenties or early thirties) our lovely bodies deteriorate and I learned the hard way that proper exercise will keep us from deteriorating as badly. Plus, I learned about diet and supplementation. You no doubt have to follow a special diet. I recommend you to also supplement. I personally use certain products that are AMAZING and would love to guide you to them if you're interested.
As for your potential kids, the best you can do is pray, make healthy choices, have mommy nurse (it gives babies antibodies extra stuff no man made milk offers), start them early on eating healthy and LOW sugars. NO POP like I used to allow. It messes up the ph and puts strain on our systems. Fiber, Veges, and Fruits should always be number one and your kids should be quite fine!
Prayer is most important.
God bless!

Is there a website where you can put in symptoms and it will give you possible conditions/diseases?
None of the available resources are great. You can use Merck Medicus or WebMD or medicinenet.com or medical-library.org or myelectronicmd.com
