-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many people consider the nursing profession as one the noblest professions. Nurses derive tremendous satisfaction from the noble act of caring for and nursing people to good health. Nursing has also become quite a lucrative profession in this day and age. However, becoming a nurse can be quite expensive. The course itself is expensive and nurses also have to pass certifying exams before they get the necessary licenses or registrations that enable them to become full-fledged nurses.

A vast majority of nurses enter the workforce after they complete their basic nursing qualification because of the huge expenses. However, they realize that there are tremendous growth opportunities for nurses with better qualifications. This is why many nurses turn to nursing continuing education. To put it simply, these advanced nursing education is an “earn while you learn” scheme. Nurses that sign-up for nursing continuing education programs while working so that they can continue to work at their regular hospitals while they improve their qualifications.

Many hospitals in the U.S. work in collaboration with a college or university that provides nursing continuing education. The nurses can benefit from this program because they can schedule their rounds conveniently in order to accommodate the demands of the course. They can do this because the hospital itself administers the program. Since this option gives nurses a chance to grow in their chosen profession, they prefer to work in hospitals which provide the option of nursing continuing education.

This situation makes commercial sense for the hospitals because they will have a steady pool of nurses guaranteed to undertake the course. Hospitals also support the nursing continuing education programs because it allows them to retain staff in an industry that is always short of qualified nurses.

The majority of American nursing associations like the American Nursing Association (ANA), American Nephrology Nursing Association (ANNA) are heavily in favor of nursing continuing education. This program, after all, is a win-win situation for all concerned. This process also benefits the public because it produces qualified nurses employed in stress-free hospitals.
