  7. How To Use Article Services For Improved Search Engine Listings
  8. 2 Jun 2007 at 9:57pm
Title: How To Use Article Services For Improved Search Engine Listings, Category: span class="KeyWordStyle"Writing/span, Article: How To Use Article Services For Improved Search Engine ListingsBy: Peter NisbetIf you know how to use article services for improved search engine listings, henceforth called SERPs (search engine result positions), for specific targeted keywords by seeking a good article ghost writer and having your articles written professionally, then you can rapidly give your website a kick up the rankings. Article marketing is currently a very popular means of generating website traffic, and also of improving the Page Rank of specific web pages. Google Page Rank is determined by the number of links back to a specified web page from other ranked web pages relative to the number of links leaving that same web page. By choosing highly ranked article directories, it is possible to use article marketing to increase your page rank in addition to attracting highly focused visitors to your website. In order to achieve this you have to use the right strategy, make sure that your article is well written and relevant to the keywords that it is optimized for, and that it is designed more as a teaser that leaves the reader wanting to read more, than as a complete product that answers all the questions. The authors resource box, or bio, must also be well designed, not only to attract the click, but also to provide the most appropriate target page on your website that will bring you most benefit. Lets have a look at how to do that, and explain what an article services site can do for you.You either know your topic or niche well or you dont. If you know it well, and write your own articles, you might just overcook it and either provide information at too high and complex a level, or write on and on and bore the reader with far too long an article. An article should be short and snappy, but not so short that it gives nothing. It all depends on how it is constructed and written.A 300 400 word article can be sufficient, or it could take 800 900 words to whet the appetite of the reader. It depends on the niche. You must leave readers wanting more, and compel them to click to your site. This is where a good ghost writer can do a good job for you. One article can be worth a lot of money to you and you should not worry about paying for it. No articles should cost more than $15, and most services price them lower. It is easy to calculate the cost against potential benefits by tracking the effectiveness of your articles. Your website tracking analysis should allow you to determine the source of visitors to your website, and how many from each source made purchases. In this way, you can carry out a cost analysis on your articles and any other marketing technique used to sell your products. What is difficult or even impossible to quantify is the contribution made by individual articles or authors to your Google Page Rank, and hence SERPs for each of your web pages. What you could do is to run specific article marketing campaigns, one at a time over a period of time, checking the dates that the search engines crawled your site, and determining any changes in your listings over each period. You can then determine whether to write your own articles or employ an article services website to do it for you. The site could also probably submit the articles to appropriate article directories for you, and also write your bio box. The bio, or resource bo,x is a very important part of your article that many authors fail to use to its best advantage. Here are some tips for you.Write in the third person, but use your first name. Be positive and dont hesitate to promote your personality or outlook. You are selling yourself and your website so approach it with a sales attitude. For example:Sue is experienced in article marketing, and has a very positive attitude to the topic that she loves. Her ability to express any customers requirements in a visual form from her web page Article Services gives her great satisfaction. She is very approachable and you can contact her at her website xxxxx.com if you are planning to give your own website a kick up the rankings. The anchor text should be linked to a web page within the website that relates to the topic of the article, rather than the home page. That is a more powerful link than a home page link. However you also have the home page link after, if you are allowed two links. That is much better than More information on Sues article services can be obtained from her site xxxx.comThat is how to use article services for improved search engine listings, rather than try it yourself. You might very well be successful, but the resource boxes written by professionals tend to be a lot more productive that anything that webmasters produce themselves., Form more information about span class="KeyWordStyle"Writing/span articles visit articler.com br/ br/

  19. Sydney and the Australian Market
  20. 21 Nov 2007 at 8:50pm
I have spent this week in the beautiful city of Sydney Australia, which earlier this week I gave a seminar with a href="http://www.searchengineroom.com.au"Search Engine Room/a on using search to drive your e-commerce strategy. An impressive turnout from some of Australia’s leading companies. Hats off to Martin Kelly owner of Search Engine Room for such leadership. He has built quite a strong brand here in Australia and many top companies know his work.br /br /At the end of the day I gave a quick site review session in which I looked at half a dozen sites targeting the Australian market. This market is not far behind the US in terms of development and innovation. However many of the same mistakes that we have seen over the years are plaguing new business.br /br /Based upon my browsing sites that are locally targeted and hosted in the US, it is more important than ever for site owners to consider hosting locally. The overall experience is far to slow and not a great use of high-speed connections.

  23. The First Week of the Fight Against Bill C-61

    Listen
It has now been one week since Industry Minister Jim Prentice unveiled Bill C-61.nbsp; While the bill yielded the predictable voices of immediate support from lobby groups anxious to import the DMCA to Canada, it did not take long for the government#39;s communication strategy to go off-the-rails (a a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbcqRLV7tGg"none-too-impressive performance/a by Prentice at the press conference did not help).nbsp; By virtually any standard, it has not been a good week for a minister who is often described in glowing terms as future leadership material.nbsp; The media coverage has nearly universally criticized the legislation. A sampling of masthead editorials include:br / ul lia href="http://www.brantfordexpositor.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1075863amp;auth=ST.+CATH ARINES+STANDARD"Brantford Expositor/a/li lia href="http://www.thewhig.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1077886amp;auth=ST.+CATHARINES+STA NDARD"Kingston Whig-Standard/a/li lia href="http://www.canada.com/nanaimodailynews/news/opinion/story.html?id=e5f22132-bf98 -43b3-a1b7-632b1fbec19d"Nanaimo Daily News/a/li lia href="http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/editorials/story.html?id=9eb28032-6a93 -4f6f-8cb0-4ae21bedd40e"Ottawa Citizen/abr / /li lia href="http://www.owensoundsuntimes.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1076233amp;auth=OSPREY+N EWS+NETWORK"Owen Sound Sun-Times/a/li lia href="http://www.princegeorgecitizen.com/20080615136735/opinion/editorials/copyright- law-heavy-handed.html"Prince George Citizen/a/li lia href="http://www.thesudburystar.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1074217amp;auth=THE+ST.+CAT HERINES+STANDARD"Sudbury Star/a/li lia href="http://www.thesudburystar.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1074217amp;auth=THE+ST.+CAT HERINES+STANDARD"St. Catherines Standard/a/li lia href="http://www.canada.com/victoriatimescolonist/news/comment/story.html?id=ca091559 -646a-475e-b7a1-7cbdfebd0c3aamp;p=1"Victoria Times-Colonist/a/li lia href="http://www.wellandtribune.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1076672"Welland Tribune/a/li lia href="http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/editorial/story.html?id=a7d91d52-cf59-4 d9f-88ee-38f702c10c42"Vancouver Sun/a/li /ul Further, the online anger has surely exceeded the Minister#39;s expectations: br /br /ulliover 8,000 people have used the a href="http://www.copyrightforcanadians.ca/action/firstlook/"Copyright for Canadians site/a to write letters to their MP and the Ministers/lilithe a href="http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6315846683"Fair Copyright for Canada Facebook group/a has grown to over 69,000 members - that#39;s 29,000 new members in a week/lilithe local Fair Copyright for Canada chapters continue to grow at a remarkable rate.nbsp; Toronto and Vancouver each have over 1,000 members, while Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Ottawa all have over 400 members each.nbsp; Local events are breaking out everywhere (a href="http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=17173091391"Calgary/a, a href="http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=17666347741"Montreal/a, a href="http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=20555752270"Edmonton/a) and a href="http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=17795093906"Jim Prentice#39;s Stampede breakfast/a on July 5th promises to be a must-attend event.nbsp; Moreover, new local groups are being added daily including a href="http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=21930551981"Hamilton/a, a href="http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=17214388909"Guelph/a, a href="http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=20040175987"Kingston/a, a href="http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=55421805057"Okanagan/a, and a href="http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=20529530945"Northern Ontario/a. /li/ul The response from Industry Minister Jim Prentice?nbsp; a href="http://www.michaelgeist.ca/content/view/3055/125/" Letters to the editor/a that repeat already-tired spin about the bill being a quot;made in Canadaquot; solution or an appearance on the a href="http://podcast.cbc.ca/mp3/searchengine_20080619_6331.mp3"CBC#39;s Search Engine/a where he dodges questions and hangs up on the interviewer.nbsp; Yet no one should rest on their laurels as powerful groups will fight to defend the Canadian DMCA.nbsp; Letters, meetings, local events, and raising awareness remains absolutely critical.nbsp; To that end, next week I#39;ll be kicking off another series - 61 Flaws in Bill C-61.nbsp; Each weekday from June 23rd until September 15th (the day the House of Commons is currently scheduled to resume), I#39;ll point to a reason why Canadians should reject the bill and demand better.img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/MichaelGeistsBlog/~4/315555116" height="1" width="1"/

  27. Nine Alternative Search Engines in Australia
  28. 16 Feb 2007 at 2:29am
div class='snap_preview'pOk, so we all know the #8220;Big 3#8243; search engines in Australia - namely a href="http://www.google.com.au" title="Google" target="_blank"Google/a, a href="http://au.yahoo.com" title="Yahoo!" target="_blank"Yahoo/a! and a href="http://www.live.com.au" title="Live Search" target="_blank"Live/a (ninemsn.com.au), as well as the stalwart a href="http://au.altavista.com/" title="AltaVista" target="_blank"Altavista/a (owned by Overture/Yahoo!), but I recently delved into local search engine alternatives and was quite surprised at the breadth of choice./p pLet#8217;s have a look at some of the alternatives:-/p p1. a href="http://www.webwombat.com.au" title="Web Wombat" target="_blank"Web Wombat/a/p pWeb Wombat maintains it lists 20,000,000+ Australian web pages. To get your site listed quickly, you can opt for an #8220;Express Registration#8221; which costs $40 p.a. for one page or $65 for up to 150 pages./p pAt the suggestion of our SEO guy, I listed a href="http://www.obits.com.au" title="Australian Death Notices, Funeral Notices and Obituaries" target="_blank"Obits/a back in January 2006. I opted for the more expensive of the two options (i.e. up to 150 pages). Whilst the main page was indexed for a while it seemed to fall off, and asking about the other 149 pages fell on deaf ears. For $65 it wasn#8217;t worth the frustration./p pWhen time came to renew I expressed my concerns as to how my listing wasn#8217;t being optimised (in fact I couldn#8217;t find it at all - let alone being given priority), how I#8217;d had a total of 23 referrals ($2.82 per click), and not a single referral since 7/9/06. I said that if they could fix these problems, that I#8217;d be happy to renew for another year. Again no response. So I let it lapse and got an email saying my site would be *removed* from the index./p pThen a funny thing happened, and since *removing* my website, I#8217;ve had 28 referrals this week - go figure#8230;./p pOnline Since 1996br / Google Page Rank (Home Page) 6br / Pages Indexed (in Google.com.au “Pages from Australia”) 7,930 (if this is relevant)br / Alexa Rank 27,513br / Monetisation: Express registration, featured links, Overture Yahoo!, Google Adwords and I suspect Affiliate programs./p p2. a href="http://www.sensis.com.au" title="Sensis Seach Engine" target="_blank"Sensis/a/p pWell, everything I have to say about this search engine has been a href="http://blogpond.wordpress.com/2007/01/13/sensis-search-engine-senslis/" target="_blank"previously said/a./p pOnline Since 2004br / Google Page Rank (Home Page) 6br / Pages Indexed (in Google.com.au “Pages from Australia”) 1,590br / Alexa Rank 22,098 (and falling)br / Monetisation: Sensis Bidsmart/p p3. a href="http://www.ansearch.com.au" title="Ansearch" target="_blank"Ansearch/a/p pAnsearch is an interesting case study, and deserves a post of its own (which I will do soon). There are number Ansearch internet properties, and some of the following websites belong to Ansearch./p pAnsearch presents its search results with #8220;ranked#8221; sites first. These results are sorted by a #8220;popularity index#8221; which is determined by a #8220;number of sources#8221; which are not disclosed. Users can also enter a gender and age, and the search engine will attempt to deliver results which are more popular to your demographic. I found that many of the results were irrelevant and often aged or stale domains./p pOnline Since 2004br / Google Page Rank (Home Page) 6br / Pages Indexed (in Google.com.au “Pages from Australia”) 429,000br / Alexa Rank 38,965br / Monetisation: Overture Yahoo!/p p4. a href="http://www.anzwers.com.au" title="Anzwers" target="_blank"Anzwers/a (an Ansearch website)/p pHome page is feature packed with news links to news.com.au, abc.net.au and news.ninemsn.com.au. Lots of sponsored links, often to their other search sites. I prefer the search results to those from ansearch.com.au./p pOnline Since 1996br / Google Page Rank (Home Page) 7br / Pages Indexed (in Google.com.au “Pages from Australia”) 18,300br / Alexa Rank 86,962br / Monetisation: Overture Yahoo!, contextual advertising and affiliate marketing/p pThe Alexa daily reach comparison for these four alternatives can be seen below (which shows that Web Wombat is taking over from Sensis in popularity):/p pa href="http://blogpond.wordpress.com/files/2007/02/searchengines.png" title="Australian Search Engines - Alexa Rankings"img src="http://blogpond.wordpress.com/files/2007/02/searchengines.thumbnail.png" alt="Australian Search Engines - Alexa Rankings" //a/p p5. a href="http://www.searchxyz.com.au" title="Searchxyz" target="_blank"Searchxyz/a (Ansearch)/p pYet another Ansearch search engine. This site appears to be newly released, and the search results seem pretty relevant./p pOnline Since 2006/2007?br / Google Page Rank (Home Page) 2br / Pages Indexed (in Google.com.au “Pages from Australia”) 3,750br / Alexa Rank 834,150br / Monetisation: Via links to Ansearch - no #8220;sponsored listings#8221; as yet./p p6. a href="http://www.blackstump.com.au" title="Beyond.... the Blackstump" target="_blank"Blackstump/a/p pThis appears to be a #8220;one man show#8221;, being run by #8220;Pirate Pete#8221; with a few helpers. Whilst not a search engine per se, it is more a human edited directory of links with search within the site being powered by Google. Submission is a bit tricky, #8220;Pirate Pete#8221; has to like the site in order to include it. #8220;Pete#8221; has obviously devoted a lot of time and effort over the years in putting together a pretty impressive collection of links./p p#8220;Pete#8221; recently added Obits to the site (of his on volition - many thanks!). People can subscribe via RSS or email to receive weekly updates of newly added sites, which is obviously very popular. The day the Obits site was added I received 56 referrals from the site, which is huge for a niche site like Obits. Since then I#8217;ve had about 169 visits from the Blackstump, which is pretty cool (and more than the alternative directories previously mentioned put together)./p pOnline Since 1995br / Google Page Rank (Home Page) 5br / Pages Indexed (in Google.com.au “Pages from Australia”) 217br / Alexa Rank 178,860br / Monetisation: Google/p p7. a href="http://www.mywebsearch.com.au" title="My Web Search" target="_blank"MyWebSearch/a (Yep Ansearch Again)/p pAlthough the top search results seem on par with the major search engines, this site has a hard time distinguishing #8220;.co.nz#8221; domains from #8220;.com.au#8221; in a #8220;search Australia#8221; search request./p pOnline Since 2007?br / Google Page Rank (Home Page) 0br / Pages Indexed (in Google.com.au “Pages from Australia”) Not indexed yetbr / Alexa Rank 7,503,835br / Monetisation: Overture Yahoo!/p p8. a href="http://www.websearch.com.au" title="WebSearch" target="_blank"Websearch/a/p pUnfortunately this message is on the site #8220;Sorry, the engine is off line for maintenance. Not for long though!#8221;, so I was unable to have a look. I#8217;m not sure how long this message has been displayed, but nothing much seems to have been done to the site recently. It appears to be a one man show run by Dez Blanchfield and claims to be searching 106,654,259 web pages./p pOnline Since 1994br / Google Page Rank (Home Page) 6br / Pages Indexed (in Google.com.au “Pages from Australia”) 26br / Alexa Rank 147,262br / Monetisation: Google/p p9. a href="http://www.mooter.com" title="Mooter" target="_blank"Mooter /a- #8220;The power of relevance#8221;/p pNot strictly for the Australian domain, although it does claim #8220;options to search Australian websites only or the full web#8221;. I couldn#8217;t find this option. I#8217;ve included it here because as a search engine, it#8217;s like nothing I#8217;ve ever seen before. It presents search results in #8220;clusters#8221;, and you can follow any one of the relevant clusters to refine your results, as below. It#8217;s an interesting concept, but one which seems to have fallen by the wayside in terms of development, so perhaps it didn#8217;t take off. Oh, if you try this search, once you#8217;ve clicked on a cluster, don#8217;t hit the back button - refine by using the sidebar/p pa href="http://blogpond.wordpress.com/files/2007/02/mooter.gif" title="Mooter search results"img src="http://blogpond.wordpress.com/files/2007/02/mooter.thumbnail.gif" alt="Mooter search results" //a/p pOnline Since 2003br / Google Page Rank (Home Page) 7br / Pages Indexed (in Google.com.au “Pages from Australia”) n/a (21 in #8220;the web#8221;)br / Alexa Rank 223,702br / Monetisation: Overture Yahoo!/p pSo, as you can see there are quite a few alternatives, but whether any of these make a serious impact on the market leaders remains to be seen./p /div
